Job Description
Under the direction of and in collaboration with the nurse manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) has 24‑hour accountability for their area(s) of responsibility. This accountability encompasses patient care outcomes, service excellence, human resource issues, fiscal management, quality improvement compliance, and communication. Emphasis is placed on creating a positive environment that fosters professional growth and retention. The ANM acts as a role model and mentor, coaching staff to achieve high standards of care.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
Certification within specialty area within two years of assuming position
Registered Nurse
Membership in related professional organization preferred
2–3 years experience in Clinical Nursing or a related field
1–2 years experience in Progressive Leadership Nursing
Job Responsibilities
Assists in assuring the delivery of quality patient care to achieve desired outcomes; participates in formulation and revision of unit clinical and administrative policies and procedures in accordance with organizational goals.
Acts as a clinical and administrative resource for unit personnel; plans, organizes, and evaluates the provision of care while collaborating collegially with physicians and health team members.
Assists in overall nursing operations, including annual planning to support system‑wide initiatives; coordinates and assists in patient care on designated shifts; manages the nursing unit in the absence of the nurse manager.
Assists in recruiting and retaining staff: conducts interviews, hires, and coordinates orientation; utilizes counseling and progressive discipline as needed; provides a work environment conducive to staff retention.
Assumes responsibility for employee development: identifies educational and organizational opportunities in collaboration with nurse educators; coaches and mentors staff through ongoing performance feedback.
