Overview The Indianapolis Foundation will hire a Community Leadership Officer (CLO) to support and administer its grantmaking activities focused on youth and the arts. The CLO will conduct due diligence on grant proposals, provide funding recommendations, and serve as a liaison among grant seekers, grantees, nonprofits, and community-based organizations.

What We’re Looking For The CLO will be detail‑oriented, possess strong analytical skills, and have a passion for philanthropy and community engagement.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Key responsibilities include:
Grant Making and Analysis:
Review and analyze grant proposals; conduct due diligence on potential grantees; prepare summaries and recommendations for senior staff.
Subject Matter Expertise:
Maintain a broad understanding of equity priorities, especially youth and the arts; stay informed about trends and best practices.
Communication and Relationship Management:
Serve as the primary point of contact for grant applicants and grantees; foster positive relationships with nonprofits and community organizations; coordinate communication between internal teams and external stakeholders.
Support for Grantmaking Processes:
Assist in developing grant application materials and evaluation criteria; track submissions and ensure timely processing; participate in review meetings.
Reporting and Documentation:
Prepare reports and presentations on grantmaking activities; maintain accurate records of applications and decisions; support analysis of funded projects; provide leadership on special funds such as the Summer Youth Program Fund.
Donor Support:
Support development of donor materials and recommendations for Donor‑Advised Fund holders.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (nonprofit management, fine arts, social sciences, or related disciplines).
Minimum of 2 years of experience in philanthropy, nonprofit management, or a related field.
Strong analytical skills; ability to assess complex information.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; professional demeanor; ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
Detail‑oriented and organized; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with grant management software is a plus.
Passion for philanthropy, community engagement, racial equity, and social impact.
Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and ability to travel locally for meetings and site visits.
Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed for community events.
Knowledge of Indianapolis neighborhoods and arts‑based organizations is a plus.
Working Conditions Flexible office environment.
