General Summary Of Position
Works primarily in the food service operation handling cash and credit transactions from MedStar/Sodexo customers. Assists in setup and serving of food from counters and steam tables. Duties include cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work stations. As a cashier, they must accurately operate the cash register/POS, complete transactions, and provide support to the retail operation including setting up, maintaining supplies and products, and assisting in cleanup and closedown. Responsibilities may differ between accounts, depending on business necessities and client requirements.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards.
Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate, attends meetings, serves on committees, and represents the department and facility in community outreach efforts.
Operates a cash register (or equivalent), receives payments of cash, checks, and credit from customers or employees for goods or services, making change and issuing receipts.
Ensures accurate scanning of PLUs or barcodes for sale items.
Maintains proper security of cash at all times.
Assists in locating, reconciling, and verifying the accuracy of transactions; operates peripheral equipment that records and supports non-cash transactions.
Prepares service areas before meals and cleans dining rooms after meals, including wiping tables, vacuuming floors, and ensuring an acceptable appearance.
Sets up and stocks beverage areas, grab-and-go items, service ware, condiments, or other assigned areas.
Sets up stations with entrees, soups, salads, breads, and condiments.
Serves and replenishes food from counters and steam tables, sometimes using a conveyor food belt, and breaks down stations at the end of meal periods.
Cleans and sanitizes workstations, counters, steam tables, and other equipment.
Interacts with customers in the serving and dining areas; assists customers with opening containers and cutting food when requested.
Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures, reports all accidents and injuries promptly, and participates in regular safety meetings, training, and hazard assessments.
May maintain inventory, stock, and requisitions, as well as complete assigned tasks from management every day.
Minimal Qualifications Education
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience
Prior work experience not required; related work experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Basic computer skills preferred.
Professional presentation and adherence to honesty and ethics.
Positive attitude and ability to communicate with coworkers and other departments with professionalism and respect.
Maintains professional relationships with coworkers, vendor representatives, supervisors, managers, customers, and client representatives.
