The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) is seeking a Director, Advanced Manufacturing Learning who will lead strategic initiatives that integrate cutting‑edge manufacturing technologies with innovative learning models. They are responsible for developing programs to support employee readiness in advanced manufacturing environments.
This role offers a unique opportunity to interface with client companies - primarily advanced manufacturing, technology, warehousing, and corporate headquarters - to design and facilitate highly customized training and improvement initiatives aligned to their unique jobs, processes, equipment, and standards.
Responsibilities
Interface with companies, sector teams, higher education institutions, and manufacturing associations to understand emerging industry trends
Provide leadership and guidance to internal team
Collaboration with leadership to develop a strategic vision for advanced manufacturing learning solutions
Direct the design and manage the development of a suite of modules that will serve as the program’s core offerings in Advanced Manufacturing
Champion the use of appropriate technologies to advance learning
Support the development of and integrate emerging technologies such as AR/VR, AI, and digital twinning into learning environments
Consult with clients to assess needs, analyze gaps, and deliver tailored training solutions
Collaborate with colleagues, clients, and subject matter experts to develop high-quality materials, coordinate logistics, and ensure seamless training delivery
Thoroughly prepare for and deliver engaging training content, adapting to the learners as necessary to optimize learning
Evaluate learner outcomes and continuously learn and adjust content, mediums, and methods to deliver world‑class training
Coach clients as requested to maximize operational efficiency during start‑up
Support the development and maintenance of a Knowledge Management System for all eLearning and Instructor‑Led content
Maintain and grow expertise in relevant subject matter areas, industry standards, and best practices through ongoing research and development

Comfortable with frequent in‑state and regional travel with occasional long‑distance travel required
Preferred qualification includes bachelor’s degree in manufacturing or industrial engineering (other fields may apply) from an accredited university
Experience Desired
Minimum of 7 years of experience in advanced manufacturing or technical training development
Experience leading cross‑functional teams and managing transformational initiatives
Track record of navigating the ambiguity typically associated with startups
Experience with Industry 4.0 Technologies
Extensive experience in instructional design, development, and facilitation
Experience with Microsoft Office suite, Learning Management Systems, and technical aspects of instructional design
Substantial private sector experiences working and consulting in and/or with large, multinational firm(s)
Being authorized to work in the U.S. is a precondition of employment. VEDP uses the E-Verify system and does not provide sponsorship.
This position is based in VEDP’s Richmond Office three days each week with the option to telework two days each week according to VEDP’s hybrid work policy.
