Project Manager III – Port of San Francisco
Job Description
The Port of San Francisco’s Engineering Division is seeking a Project Manager III to lead the execution of marine and infrastructure capital projects. The PMO Manager will use project‑management procedures to oversee the complete project lifecycle, supervise a team of PM I and PM II, and coordinate delivery with engineering, environmental, and port stakeholders.
Appointment Type:
Permanent Exempt (PEX), Full‑Time – approximately 3 years.
Annual compensation:
$267,488.
Key Responsibilities
Execute projects and manage a staff of PM I and PM II to deliver capital projects.
Oversee projects through planning, design, permitting and construction phases, ensuring delivery within schedule and budget.
Coordinate design and construction support; develop progress reports and provide regular updates to the Engineering Deputy Director.
Participate in design and assessment criteria development, alternative delivery methods, and review change orders.
Lead collaboration with design team, environmental staff, and Port Commission interface.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering or planning plus 8 years of responsible architectural, engineering or construction management experience.
Or, Bachelor’s degree in another field plus 10 years of responsible experience directly related to the project.
Or, 12 years of architectural, engineering or construction management experience in a related field.
California registration as a professional engineer or architect, plus 4 years of project coordination experience.
Valid California driver’s license at time of appointment.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience managing projects with construction costs of at least $50 million or large‑scale port or marine facility engineering projects.
Knowledge of public‑sector budgeting, finance and purchasing policies, and grant‑management regulations.
Strong time‑management, organization, communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.
Understanding of marine engineering design, geotechnical, structural and seismic issues.
Knowledge of LEED or Net Zero Carbon Design.
Commitment to equity and diversity in project delivery.
