Job DescriptionJob Description

Position Overview: The Electrical Estimator plays a critical role in the preconstruction process, developing detailed cost estimates and proposals for electrical scopes within mechanical and MEP projects. This individual will ensure accuracy, competitiveness, and profitability by analyzing project documents, collaborating with internal teams, and engaging with vendors and subcontractors. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, knowledgeable in electrical construction, and proficient in Bluebeam and ConEst. This role requires someone comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where precision and deadlines are key.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Preconstruction & Estimating:

Review architectural, structural, and MEP drawings and specifications to fully understand project requirements.

Prepare comprehensive electrical estimates including material takeoffs, labor calculations, equipment needs, subcontractor pricing, and indirect costs.

Analyze blueprints, technical documents, and addenda to identify scope gaps, risks, and opportunities.

Develop conceptual, schematic, and detailed estimates at various stages of design.

Provide accurate cost models for design-build and design-assist projects.

2. Collaboration & Coordination:

Work closely with plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection estimating teams to ensure complete and coordinated proposals.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to validate assumptions, schedules, and constructability.

Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, and client presentations as required.

Assist project teams with cost breakdowns and budgets following award.

3. Vendor & Subcontractor Engagement:

Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations to ensure scope coverage and competitive pricing.

Build and maintain strong relationships with electrical subcontractors and suppliers to ensure reliable pricing and availability.

Ensure estimates reflect current labor agreements, material escalation trends, and industry best practices.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field ; equivalent field experience will be considered.

Minimum 3–5 years of electrical estimating experience, ideally within mechanical or MEP construction.

Strong knowledge of electrical systems, codes, materials, and installation practices.

Proficiency with

Bluebeam

and

ConEst

is required.

Proven ability to read, interpret, and analyze technical drawings, blueprints, and project specifications.

Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present and defend estimates.

Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Strong negotiation skills and the ability to develop positive relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.

Working Conditions:

Setting: Office-based work

Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, standard 8-hour shift, with flexibility to accommodate project needs.
