Senior Cost Estimator – Huntsville, AL
Global Business Solutions, Inc. (GBSI) is seeking an experienced Senior Cost Estimator to join our team in Huntsville, Alabama.
The successful candidate will develop accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for high‑visibility programs, ensuring compliance with federal contracting standards and delivering insights to senior leadership.
Responsibilities
Develop comprehensive cost estimates from initial concept through final execution, using industry‑standard methodologies and tools.
Analyze technical specifications, engineering drawings, and statements of work to identify cost drivers and scope requirements.
Perform detailed quantity take‑offs and apply appropriate labor, material, and equipment rates.
Build and maintain cost models, databases, and historical cost records for recurring and unique projects.
Evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with federal acquisition regulations (FAR).
Ensure all estimates comply with federal contracting standards, including DFARS, FAR, and agency‑specific guidelines.
Document all assumptions, methodologies, and risk factors used in the estimating process.
Support audits and reviews by maintaining traceable and defensible estimate documentation.
Incorporate security protocols when handling sensitive or classified project data.
Prepare and deliver formal cost estimate briefings to military officers and senior government stakeholders.
Translate complex cost data into clear, actionable insights for decision‑making.
Respond to technical and strategic questions during briefings with confidence and clarity.
Collaborate with program managers, engineers, and acquisition personnel to refine and validate estimates.
Lead cost estimating efforts for high‑visibility or mission‑critical programs.
Identify cost‑saving opportunities and alternative solutions during the estimating phase.
Participate in integrated teams and acquisition planning sessions.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
10–15 years of industry‑accepted experience (additional years may be accepted in lieu of a degree).
DoD‑issued Secret Security Clearance required at start; ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret clearance may be required.
Certified Estimating Professional (CEP), Certified Cost Professional (CCP), and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certifications are highly desired.
Proven experience in cost estimating, preferably in government contracting or engineering.
Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
Proficiency in cost estimation software and Microsoft Excel.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
