CLASSIFICATION: Part‑time, salaried REPORTS TO: Head Coach LOCATION: Cornerstone University, Grand Rapids, MI
Summary Cornerstone University is seeking an Assistant Wrestling Coach to work alongside and support the Head Coach in some aspects of coaching and leading this Cornerstone University Athletic Program. In addition to the duties listed below, the Assistant Coach must also have a relationship with Jesus and live a life that exemplifies this and continually strives to spread the love of Jesus. The core of Cornerstone University is defined and driven by its Christ‑centered mission and Biblical confession.
Duties and Responsibilities
Carries out some aspects of the program necessary to accomplish the objectives of the sport within the university, the athletic department, WHAC and NAIA contexts
In collaboration with the head coach, the assistant coach prepares and conducts practices focused on skill building and knowledge of the sport at the collegiate level
Provides special training for individual team members as required
Orients and enforces student‑athletes adherence to the policies and regulations of the university and athletic department
Assists with coordination of all travel arrangements
Helps to administer the off‑season training program
Assists with the recruitment and retention of highly skilled student‑athletes
All Cornerstone University employees will regularly interact with students in a variety of projects, activities, and settings. As such all employees are expected to serve as Christian leaders and mentors by effectively living a gospel‑centered lifestyle, ministering and discipling through a biblical worldview.
A maximum of 18 hours/week on average is expected, no more than 936 hours/year.
Other duties may be assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
High School Diploma required, Bachelors Degree preferred with successful experience in coaching and/or playing
Good organizational, communication and coordination skill essential
Ability to work well under deadlines and high pressure situations
Ability to recruit student‑athletes with potential for academic and athletic success
Represent Cornerstone University in a Christ‑like, professional manner to many different internal and external constituencies, consistently exhibits enthusiasm toward the institution
Physical requirements include the ability to navigate our physical campus, use computers, and occasionally lift up to 35 pounds.
