Position Overview
The Academic Tutor works under the Director and Academic Specialists of the TRIO Upward Bound Programs (UBP) to provide tutorial assistance to students in the federally mandated Upward Bound curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
Provide academic tutorial assistance to improve student success.
Prepare evaluations on student progress monthly during Academic Year Component and bi‑weekly during Summer Residential Component.
Attend orientation, training, and meetings.
Serve as a positive role model and mentor for UBP participants.
Meet with the Project Coordinator and report participant concerns.
Participate in Upward Bound extracurricular activities as directed.
Required Qualifications
Successful completion of one year of college‑level coursework with a GPA of 3.0 or higher at an accredited post‑secondary institution.
Strong foundation in Math, Science, Social Science, Foreign Language, or English.
Knowledge of learning and motivation techniques.
Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Proficiency with computer and office equipment.
Physical ability to operate office equipment, speak to exchange information, and perform light lifting as required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with economically challenged and first‑generation student populations.
Compensation $18.00–$20.00 per hour (part‑time, .37 FTE, temporary, non‑exempt).
Location Thousand Oaks, CA.
