The Institutional team at Coinbase is vital for empowering thousands of large financial institutions to securely custody their digital assets and engage in the crypto economy. We take pride in creating a scalable and secure platform, supporting numerous assets, and enabling various services like staking and governance. As a member of the Markets team within the Institutional Product Group, you will play a crucial role in developing top-tier exchange platforms known for their low latency and high performance in crypto trading. As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and maintaining the core technologies that power our platforms, working collaboratively with a talented group of engineers and product managers to deliver exceptional solutions for our high-value customers. Key Responsibilities: Architect and implement essential components of the trading platform, focusing on market data, trade execution, and settlement using Java, Golang, or similar technologies. Create scalable, low latency systems with a focus on modern cloud technologies and industry best practices. Define the long-term vision for scaling core trading systems and guide the teams supporting them. Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate our shared vision into actionable quarterly roadmaps. Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet customer needs effectively. Mentor team members and elevate the technical standards across the team. Qualifications: 8+ years of backend software engineering experience using Java, Golang, or similar languages. Experience designing and maintaining high-volume, low-latency production services. Proven ability to architect solutions for complex problems with significant impact. A genuine interest in creating an open financial system that unites people globally. Preferred Qualifications: Experience building order management, risk, or matching engines with high-volume, low-latency characteristics. Familiarity with complex distributed systems and event-driven architectures. Knowledge of AWS infrastructure, Docker, and Kubernetes. Experience in a rapidly growing company environment. Understanding of blockchain technology (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum). Experience decomposing monolithic architectures into microservices. Hands-on experience with tools and technologies like Java, Golang, Docker, Postgres, and AWS. Familiarity with onchain activities and blockchain services.
