As the Controller, you will play a critical leadership role in the financial stewardship of the company. You will oversee all aspects of financial management, including accounting, budgeting, reporting, compliance, internal controls, and strategic financial planning. This role demands a strategic thinker with deep knowledge of financial systems and a proven ability to translate complex financial data into actionable business insights. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will serve as a key advisor in driving financial discipline, operational efficiency, and scalable growth in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.

Responsibilities

Lead the timely preparation of GAAP‑compliant financial statements.

Proactively manage month‑end and year‑end financial close process.

Oversee all daily accounting operations, including general ledger activities, reconciliations, AR/AP, and job cost accounting.

Develop and maintain an internal audit function to regularly review financial processes, controls, and procedures.

Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of material flows; partner with IT to develop automation solutions for inventory controls.

Develop written accounting policies and procedures and implement a rigorous environment of reporting and controls.

Coordinate and lead annual external audits.

Oversee tax compliance and filings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

Partner with operations and finance to ensure accurate cost accounting.

Manage multi‑state payroll processing, payroll tax filings, and year‑end tax reporting.

Manage business licenses, permits, and regulatory filings across multiple states.

Interface with federal government agencies to facilitate cost reimbursements pursuant to grant awards.

Provide guidance and leadership to the accounting team, including hiring, performance management, coaching, mentoring, and goal setting.

Essential Skills

Active CPA required (or able to quickly attain).

Experience as a controller with revenue exposure of $50 M+.

10+ years experience in accounting within a large manufacturing environment.

Expertise in cost accounting and cost accounting management.

Experience with Stock‑Based Compensation.

Proficiency in ERP systems; SAP preferred.

Intellectually curious with a high level of self‑accountability.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience in government grant accounting.

Ability to analyze transactional level detail in an ERP system and articulate key findings to management.

Strong business skills and effective understanding of financial, distribution, and manufacturing systems.

Ability to multi‑task and drive actions to completion under strict deadlines.

Collaboration skills to build positive relationships within and outside the Finance team.

Highly organized with attention to detail.

Experience in process development/improvement.

Work Environment This role involves overseeing a team including the Director of Accounting and an FP&A analyst. The Director of Accounting has direct reports and may supervise a team of two people. A strong SAP knowledge will be required to lead additional reports under this role. The company is a privately held company with revenue exceeding $50 M. Job Type & Location Permanent position based out of San Marcos, Texas.

Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $150,000.00 – $175,000.00 per year.
