Description A government agency in North Carolina is seeking an experienced VMware Environment Specialist to support a large-scale application development environment. This position serves as a senior Linux/Windows Systems Administrator responsible for managing UCS servers in a complex VMware infrastructure.
The selected candidate will ensure system stability, performance, and security while collaborating closely with networking, database, audit, and development teams. This hands‑on role requires strong technical expertise, analytical thinking, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
Responsibilities
Install, maintain, and upgrade operating systems and server platforms.
Manage VMware-based environments and monitor virtual infrastructure performance.
Control user access, passwords, and system configurations.
Propose and implement system improvements for stability and scalability.
Troubleshoot Linux, Windows, and virtualization issues.
Manage Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Windows, and SQL servers.
Maintain storage systems, including Pure Storage and VSAN.
Provide on‑call support and respond to incidents as required.
Recommend and implement hardware/software solutions.
Ensure compliance with established procedures and documentation standards.
Qualifications
8+ years of experience as a Systems Administrator.
7+ years managing VMware VCenter 6.7 or later.
Strong knowledge of Nagios monitoring tools.
Hands‑on experience with UNIX/Windows administration and systems support.
Proven ability to collaborate with security, audit, DBA, networking, and Microsoft teams.
Analytical and methodical approach to troubleshooting and incident response.
Experience with Red Hat Linux, storage systems, and SQL server environments.
Strong shell scripting abilities.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
Preferred Skills
VMware VCenter 8.0+ experience.
