What You'll Be Doing as Police Officer Recruit

Police Officer Recruit is an entry level classification and a non-sworn position which has no police officer powers. As a Police Officer Recruit, you will attend a Peace Officer Basic Training Academy approved by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) to gain Peace Officer status in the State of California. Your academic progress and physical achievement will be closely monitored during this training period. Upon successful completion of the POST Basic Training Academy, you will be considered for appointment as a sworn Police Officer for the East Bay Regional Park District. Application Materials

Optional materials may include POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) T-Score or National Testing Network (NTN) scores, and Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB) results. If applicable, attach/submit scores or verification with your application. For Academy Attendees ONLY

Documentation demonstrating current enrollment in a POST Basic Academy. Conditions Of Employment

Incumbents must successfully complete the POST Basic Academy to qualify for status as a Police Officer A valid California driver's license is required for initial and continued employment Must possess the physical and mental capacity to work under various weather conditions and to perform duties Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts as needed Must pass a comprehensive background check, polygraph, psychological, and medical examinations Minimum Qualifications

POST:

Must meet current Peace Officer Selection Standards as set by the California Commission on POST Citizenship:

Applicant must be legally authorized to work in the United States Education:

High School graduation or GED, and at least 24 semester or 36 quarter units of college-level coursework; credit also given for two years of Active Duty Military service; and Physical:

Must be at least 20.5 years old and meet POST standards Character:

Must have good character and not have been convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor; must pass a strict background investigation. Please note you must submit transcripts (unofficial acceptable) or a DD214 to satisfy education minimum qualification. Knowledge Of & Ability To

Knowledge Of : Basic law enforcement terminology; techniques for dealing with people under stress; public relations in law enforcement. Ability To : Learn law enforcement procedures and equipment; read and retain course materials; perform physical activities; communicate clearly; write reports; make sound judgments within legal guidelines; establish positive working relationships. The District’s Police Association represents this classification. Wages, hours and terms are covered in a collective bargaining agreement. The probationary period is twenty-four (24) months, including time served as Police Officer Recruit and Police Officer. Selection Process

Applications meeting minimum qualifications will be reviewed by a screening panel to determine who advances to testing and/or interviews. The District may require a written test, performance test, or other assessments. Possession of minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview. All applicants must provide proof of identity and work authorization per federal requirements. Special Testing Arrangements
