$65,000 to $72,000. Professional Experience / Qualifications
2‑3 years managerial experience as a golf course Superintendent or First Assistant Superintendent, or in a closely related field. Working knowledge of maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; seeding, turf care, plant management, fertilizers, herbicides, pest control, drainage, irrigation systems. Proficiency in computer use, Microsoft Office, and other specified applications. Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to optimize use of employees and equipment. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports. Ability to build and maintain effective employee and public relations. Preferred Qualifications
Degree or certification in turfgrass management or related program. Familiarity with computerized irrigation control systems and mechanical components. Knowledge of watering principles and practices. Familiarity with identifying water drought stress areas on turf grass. Education
High school diploma or equivalent. Associate’s degree in plant science or turf grass management is preferred. Certifications
A current valid driver’s license, in accordance with the university’s Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Use Policy. May require current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator. Offer Determination

Seven Oaks Golf Club, a Robert Trent Jones designed course, is nestled on the Colgate University Campus. The assistant superintendent reports directly to the golf course superintendent and assists with maintenance of the golf course areas, including tees, greens, fairways, cart paths, motorized equipment, and related work. In the superintendent’s absence, the assistant superintendent may serve in their capacity. Accountabilities
Assist with day‑to‑day management of golf course labor, time, and materials; operate effectively in the superintendent’s absence; meet playability and aesthetic requirements within assigned budgets; ensure playable conditions meet established standards. Specific Responsibilities
Assist in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways; supervise employees and equipment use. Perform preventative maintenance on golf course equipment. Grind reels and perform height‑of‑cut checks. Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects/failures in equipment. Instruct operators on equipment use; supervise pesticide applications and calibrate equipment. Modify daily work schedule as needed. Supervise crew daily, including scheduling, training, safety, regulatory compliance, time/attendance and performance. Maintain accurate records of supplies and logs; comply with DEC and federal regulations. Apply pesticides and fertilizers properly. Operate and troubleshoot computerized irrigation control system. Assist with developing budget recommendations and controlling expenditures. Supervise assigned staff, ensuring high quality work, fair performance assessments, and professional development.
