Law Enforcement Training Specialist I

Pay Range $34.51/hr — $46.63/hr (state‐provided)
Summary Coordinates, supervises and instructs police, corrections, and probation‑parole recruits and in‑service training programs on behalf of the Police Standards and Training Council (PSTC) for state, county and local agency students. Conducts investigations authorized by state law for the suspension or revocation of law enforcement officer certifications in cases of egregious misconduct.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in police science, criminal justice, education, criminology or police administration. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience:
Five years in the criminal justice field, including one year at a supervisory or management level and one year developing, coordinating or instructing law enforcement training programs.
License/Certification:
Valid driver’s license for statewide travel; eligible to obtain or possess certification as a Police or Correctional Officer with the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council.
Must pass initial and annual medical, physical and fitness examinations based on RSA 106‑L:6.
Must pass a criminal and motor vehicle history check, a comprehensive background investigation, a polygraph test and a psychological evaluation.
Available to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
Special Requirements
Perform strenuous physical work: running, strength training, wrestling, self‑defense tactics, aerobic exercises, handling firearms, operating emergency vehicles on a skid pad, standing, sitting and lifting.
Maintain annual physical fitness testing and medical examinations.
Complete background checks, polygraph and psychological evaluation.
Work nights and weekends as required for training delivery.
Responsibilities
Serve as staff for Basic Police and Corrections Training Academies, including overnight stays and recruitment physical training programs.
Develop, evaluate and update lesson plans, tests, training manuals, performance objectives and audiovisual aids, including PowerPoint presentations and training videos.
Instruct on‑site and off‑site classes for recruits and experienced officers.
Supervise state, county and local officers assisting with training programs; monitor, coach, and conduct performance evaluations.
Plan and monitor confidential investigations of misconduct, reviewing reports, interviewing complainants and witnesses, and gathering evidence.
Maintain proficiency in investigative techniques and conduct investigations into allegations of misconduct.
Provide status reports and investigative reports for the Law Enforcement Conduct Review Attorney.
Collaborate with local, state and federal agencies on training and investigation matters.
Identify, evaluate and address safety violations in training programs, recommending improvements to senior staff.
Provide instructor or investigative coverage for other Security Training Specialist positions as needed.
