Inside Higher Ed . The Department of Emergency Medicine seeks a dedicated Sr. Nurse Practitioner to collaborate with a multidisciplinary health care team and deliver complex, standardized patient care typically performed by a physician.

Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations, including chief complaints, presenting signs and symptoms, and past medical history.

Identify normal and abnormal findings, discuss significant findings with supervising physician as appropriate.

Order and interpret laboratory tests, x‑rays, diets, and other services when delegated by physician.

Initiate IV therapy via peripheral, central, or intraosseous routes; perform injections, arterial puncture, venipuncture, and provide basic/advanced life support during emergencies.

Prepare chart documentation for physician review and counter‑signature.

Determine differential diagnosis and maintain technical proficiency in suturing, wound care, and orthopedic care.

Prescribe and regulate medications within scope of practice.

Evaluate outcomes of interventions and arrange consultations/referrals as needed.

Attend staff and unit meetings; collaborate with physicians and health‑care professionals to plan patient care.

Conduct and oversee Emergency Medicine clinical trials, ensuring regulatory compliance and informed consent.

Maintain familiarity with clinical protocols, guidelines, and emerging treatments within Emergency Medicine.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Understand formal and informal policies and practices for safe and effective management of acute and chronic illnesses in the ED.

Apply professional judgment and assume responsibility for clinical decisions and outcomes.

Prioritize and organize work to meet changing unit and patient needs.

Coordinate patient‑care decisions and maintain effective communication with supervising physician.

Collaborate with health‑care team members while safeguarding patient confidentiality.

Physical Requirements

Maintain patient safety and personal safety, avoiding exposure to blood‑borne pathogens.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Nursing.

Registered Nurse license and Certified Nurse Practitioner.

Licensed as an NP in the State of Maryland or a state where practice is authorized.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related clinical area with proven proficiency.

Residency or fellowship in a specialty may substitute for experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Five years of related experience.

Nocturnist preference.

Current CPR certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross); maintain certification throughout employment.

Completion of the JHH credentialing process prior to start date.

Employment Type Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week, varied schedule. Exempt FLSA status.
