The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) invites you to consider an employment opportunity with our agency. We are looking for a meticulous and responsible candidate to fill a General Maintenance Worker II position working in Salt Lake City or Springville. Roles and Responsibilities: Performs inspection, preventative maintenance, and repairs on school-owned equipment and facilities, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, mechanical devices, interior and exterior buildings and grounds, etc. Paints offices, hallways, etc. Performs regular inspection of lighting devices and ensures that all bulbs, fuses, ballasts and other associated parts are functioning properly Moves heavy objects such as furniture, office equipment, etc. Performs setup and takedown duties associated with meetings and other school-related functions, including setting up and arranging tables and chairs, etc. Helps to shuttle state-owned vehicles for service Drives a state car, van, or truck for pick-up and delivery of materials Maintains USDB modular units and/or facilities in a clean and orderly condition Cleans and maintains floors, dusts, waxes and polishes furniture, washes windows, mirrors, and other glass or plastic items, empties trash and garbage, cleans walls and bathrooms, etc. Cleans and disinfects areas and equipment Removes snow and ice from sidewalks, doorways, etc. as needed Performs other duties as assigned. Some travel is required, typically to the Salt Lake City and/or Springville areas. Minimum Requirements: The Ideal Candidate will possess knowledge of: Applicable maintenance methods and techniques Machines and tools including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance Electrical and mechanical systems associated with the facilities Wiring and electrical techniques, including installation, repair, and maintenance Plumbing, carpentry, and painting techniques and methodology Housekeeping practices, techniques, and procedures. Ability to perform a variety of general maintenance activities Operate machines, power tools, and hand tools associated with the job Maintain and repair tools and equipment Safely use cleaning agents, products, and equipment. Basic computer skills, including word processing. Ability to understand and follow written and/or verbal instructions. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Must have and maintain a valid Utah driver license and clean driving record. Responsibilities: Risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g. working at great heights, working in extreme outdoor weather conditions, etc. Requires considerable & strenuous physical exertion, such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objects over 50 lbs, long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, crouching and crawling in restricted areas, etc. Must be able to lift and carry over 50 pounds. There are some risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, such as working around operating machines, working around hazardous chemicals, etc. Some travel is required, typically to Salt Lake City and Springville areas. Must be willing and able to travel as required. This is a full-time, 12-months-per-year position. Successful completion of criminal background check is required for this position.
