Believer Meats is an innovative start-up revolutionizing the food industry through the development and commercialization of cultivated meat products. Leveraging cutting-edge biotechnology, we aim to provide sustainable, ethical, and high-quality meat alternatives to consumers worldwide. Our first U.S. commercial facility in Wilson, North Carolina will be operational mid-2025 and our first cultivated chicken product is slated to hit the market this year.
JOB SUMMARY
The Automation and Control Engineer is responsible for designing, programming, commissioning, and maintaining automated systems used in manufacturing and production processes. This role ensures reliable operation of control systems, drives, and instrumentation that support plant efficiency, quality, and safety goals. The engineer will collaborate with maintenance, production, and engineering teams to identify automation opportunities and drive continuous improvement through innovative control solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leverage expertise in PLCs, HMIs, Ethernet networks, and I/O networks to efficiently troubleshoot control automation system issues, identify root causes, and implement timely, permanent solutions.
Specify, configure, and maintain VFDs, servos, sensors, and instrumentation.
Analyze performance trends, conducts root cause corrective actions, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant performance and machine reliability.
Uses condition monitoring tools to perform predictive maintenance analysis on production equipment, identifying potential maintenance needs and issuing preventive maintenance (PM) work orders to address issues before emergency breakdowns occur and to pinpoint root causes of maintenance challenges.
Work with Facilities and Process Maintenance teams to repair and increase machine reliability and uptime.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the Automation and Controls field, preferably in food manufacturing or the biopharma industry. The incumbent Automation and Controls Engineer will have a combination of skills, education, and skills that demonstrate the ability to fulfill all aspects of this job description.
Experience with Rockwell PLC, VFD, HMI programing and troubleshooting.
Experience developing HMI/SCADA systems (FactoryTalk View, Ignition, Wonderware, etc.).
Ability to Integrate and troubleshoot industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, etc.).
Understanding of electrical schematics, control panel design, and instrumentation wiring.
Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues in live production environments.
Ability to troubleshoot and isolate controls I/O problems.
Authorized to work in the US (Believer is an E-Verify participant).
