Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Med Surg Discipline: RN Start Date: 11/24/2025 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Orthopedics assignment requiring a WV or compact RN license and prior ortho experience. Responsibilities Work in a 33-bed Med/Surg Ortho-Neuro unit with all private rooms in an acute care setting Primary patient population includes elective orthopedic surgeries such as hips, knees, shoulders, fractures from falls, and neuro-surgeries Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6 Patient Care Techs assist with vitals, ADLs, FSBS, and Foley removal; typically 2-4 PCTs per shift depending on staffing 12-hour day shifts, every other weekend required Epic charting system experience required Travelers are the first to float to other Med/Surg units; floating to Tele with appropriate assignments as needed Remote telemetry monitoring is available as needed, but RNs do not read strips Orientation includes one day of Epic orientation and one day with a preceptor on the floor Charge nurse present 24/7; day charge may take patients if needed and night charge will always have an assignment Expected to wear royal blue scrubs; jackets must be royal blue scrub jackets Holiday coverage may be required based on unit staffing needs Travelers must take a 2-year break from WVU Medicine before returning, with a cumulative one-year max assignment duration First-year travelers within WVU Medicine are limited to one year of service before a 2-year break is required Requirements Active WV or compact RN license required Minimum of 2 years RN experience, with specific experience in ortho patients and use of PCA pumps Current BLS certification (AHA) required EPIC EMR experience required Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (no local travelers) Copy of unexpired driver’s license required for consideration Must disclose any licensing hits at the time of consideration Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-630250.
