Purpose and Summary

Correctional officers are responsible for the security and order of inmates in Sheboygan County correctional facilities. They provide effective delivery of correctional services through the observance of all federal and state laws, county ordinances, correctional policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

Essential Duties As a Correctional Officer, you will: Conduct regular rounds and observations to maintain safety, detect potential risks, and prevent incidents. Monitor inmate behavior and report concerns or rule violations to supervisors. Process new inmates by booking, assigning housing, and escorting to cells when needed. Issue uniforms, bedding, and hygiene supplies; assist with meal delivery. Supervise and inspect inmate work assignments that maintain facility cleanliness. Conduct strip searches in compliance with gender-specific requirements (female officers search female inmates; male officers search male inmates). Inspect inmate housing areas for contraband and unauthorized items. Maintain discipline through fair and consistent enforcement of rules and policies. Escort and transport inmates to court, appointments, or approved activities while ensuring security and compliance with laws. Support correctional programs, including rehabilitation and work-release (Huber) initiatives. Respond to emergencies, using only the necessary level of force to restore order. Accurately record inmate movements, status, and time served. Maintain detailed reports, logs, and records to support facility operations. Provide courtroom testimony regarding observed inmate activities or incidents. Communicate effectively with fellow officers, supervisors, and other shifts to ensure continuity. Perform other duties as assigned by the Sheriff or designee. Qualifications

High school diploma, or equivalent Associate/Bachelor's Degree in Correctional/Police Science or Bachelor's Degree in related field is preferred.

In-lieu-of an Associate or Bachelor's degree the department will consider candidates that have current Department of Justice (DOJ) certification, as Jail Officers in the State of Wisconsin, with a minimum of two (2)years experience.

Self-motivated with the ability to effectively, efficiently and entirely complete assignments with minimal supervision. Ability to communicate in a clear and concise fashion in both verbal and written communications. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Ability to be supervised. Ability to function in stressful situations. Ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written form. Ability to maintain confidentiality and good working relationships with co-workers and other staff. Ability to maintain regular and predictable work attendance.
