Position Summary
The Controller will serve as a key financial leader responsible for overseeing NavSav's accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls. This individual will play a pivotal role in scaling the company's accounting infrastructure to support rapid growth and ongoing acquisition activity. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical accounting expertise with a hands-on leadership style, operational discipline, and a passion for continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities Oversee all aspects of the accounting function, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and consolidations across multiple legal entities. Ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial reporting in accordance with GAAP. Prepare for and coordinate external audits, tax filings, and regulatory examinations. Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, driving efficiency and consistency across acquired entities. Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and agency commission processes to ensure compliance and mitigate risk. Partner with the CFO and M&A; team to evaluate, onboard, and integrate newly acquired agencies. Standardize accounting processes across acquired entities, ensuring seamless migration to NavSav's centralized systems (e.g., NetSuite, Applied EPIC, Comulate). Support due diligence, purchase accounting, and post-acquisition financial assessments. Develop and implement systems, reporting tools, and processes to enhance visibility into business performance and cash flow. Collaborate closely with Finance, HR, Technology, and Operations to align financial practices and reporting standards across the organization. Identify and lead automation and process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, scalability, and accuracy. Lead, mentor, and develop a small but high-performing accounting team while serving as a 'player-coach' who is hands-on and deeply engaged in the work. Set clear expectations, uphold the highest standards of performance, and foster a culture of accountability, integrity, and excellence. Partner with the CFO to define the long-term vision for the accounting function and build out future leadership capacity. Qualifications
CPA required (active license). 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in public accounting with a Big Four firm. Strong background in multi-entity consolidations, M&A; integration, and financial reporting. Deep understanding of GAAP and internal control frameworks. Prior experience in insurance, financial services, or other regulated, multi-location industries strongly preferred. Hands-on experience implementing or optimizing ERP/accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar). Proven ability to lead and develop accounting teams in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment. Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills. High integrity and a bias for action - equally effective in strategic discussions and detailed transactional work. Personal Characteristics
