As the Pastry Assistant Chef, you will support the Executive Pastry Chef in the preparation, baking, and presentation of all desserts and baked goods. This role requires creativity, precision, and a strong work ethic. You’ll be instrumental in upholding our standards for flavor, texture, and presentation while contributing to new menu ideas that reflect Southern traditions and Chicago’s diverse culinary influences. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, bake, and finish a variety of Southern-inspired desserts including pies, cobblers, cakes, biscuits, puddings, and seasonal specials

  • Assist with developing new dessert recipes and testing seasonal offerings

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pastry station and baking area, ensuring all food safety and sanitation standards are met

  • Ensure quality control and consistency in all pastry products

  • Measure and mix ingredients using proper equipment and techniques

  • Decorate and plate desserts with attention to visual appeal and portion standards

  • Maintain inventory of pastry ingredients and supplies; communicate needs to kitchen manager or pastry chef

  • Assist with catering and special event dessert production

  • Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure smooth service during shifts

  • Receive and properly store baking ingredients upon delivery
