Electrical / Firmware Test Engineer (Hybrid position)

We are looking for a for an Electrical / Firmware Test Engineer to join our highly skilled and energetic engineering team. We operate in small, cross-functional teams to explore, prototype, and deliver market-defining products. In this role, you will design and build R&D lab and production-grade test fixtures with automated test suites to verify new firmware releases, validate newly manufactured PCBAs and finished products, and evaluate new components and prototype PCBA designs. Your work will accelerate development, improve yield and quality, and help us ship reliable hardware at speed.
*Job Responsibilities*
The ideal candidate should be able to:
* Design and build robust test fixtures and jigs for PCBA and product verification, including bed-of-nails and pogo-pin interfaces. * Develop automated test software for firmware and functional testing using Python or similar, with instrument control and data logging. * Create and maintain regression, smoke, and stress tests for new firmware versions. * Define acceptance criteria, test coverage, and procedures for manufacturing and QA. * Execute component and subsystem evaluations, including characterization, environmental and life testing, and failure analysis. * Evaluate candidate components and subsystems to confirm required function and performance for product use, developing any necessary firmware or interface code to enable rapid prototyping and evaluation. * Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analyzers, and communication interfaces to bring up and debug hardware. * Collaborate with electrical, firmware, and mechanical teams to add DFT, DFM, and service hooks into new designs. * Stand up and maintain test benches, calibration routines, and traceability of results. * Support pilot builds and NPI, including training and troubleshooting on the line when needed.
*Required Skills*
* Strong background in hardware test engineering for embedded electronics. * Proficiency in Python for test automation and data analysis. Experience with pyVISA, SCPI, serial, USB, and LAN instrument control. * Experience flashing and exercising firmware via UART, SWD, or JTAG, plus basic bootloader and peripheral validation. * Comfortable reading schematics, probing boards, and diagnosing analog, digital, and power issues. * Familiarity with boundary-scan or basic ICT concepts, fixture safety, and ESD practices. * Solid documentation skills and a focus on reliability, maintainability, and clear pass/fail criteria. * 3+ years in a hardware or firmware test role, or equivalent hands-on portfolio.
*Desirable Traits*
* Experience with NI/LabVIEW or similar test frameworks. * Exposure to BLE, UWB, or UHF RFID device testing. * CI for hardware testing using GitLab or GitHub Actions with automated reports. * Basic fixture CAD, 3D printing, or light machining for quick iterations. * Manufacturing and regulatory experience, such as FCC and basic EMC pre-checks. * Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or comparable field preferred but not required.
