About the Role:
The Shipping Manager is a key member of the operations leadership team in Durham. The Shipping Manager will provide direction, coaching, and technical expertise to the shipping department employees and support team. This includes building and sustaining a culture of continuous improvement. They'll use superb business judgment, have experience with warehouse operations and freight management, inventory management and have strong skills working collaboratively and cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders.
They will also actively manage their assigned team to safely deliver a quality product, on time, to meet customer demand. This position will have full responsibility for shipping and receiving department in Durham.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Develop, manage, and optimize inbound/outbound freight budget with the skills to drive freight analytics and improve efficiencies. Ensure full compliance with International, United States and Canadian laws related to import and export activities, including compliance with HTS product classification. Liaise with Customer Service to provide timely and accurate data to customers regarding delivery. Develop and implement strategies to optimize the logistics network for existing and new businesses. Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources, and 5S tools, maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures. Accomplishes manufacturing goals by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures. Completes production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel, accomplishing work results through the Lean Daily Management Process Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards. Ensures proper operation of all equipment Creates and revises systems and procedures by analyzing operating practices, record-keeping systems, forms of control, and budgetary and personnel requirements, implementing continuous improvement change. Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees, developing personal growth opportunities. Resolves personnel problems by investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action. Manage and approve employee timecards in Paycom Arrange outbounds shipments and coordinate team to receive inbound shipments Prepare domestic and international DG paperwork for outbound air and ocean shipments Performs other related duties as required and assigned. Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements:
5+ Years of shipping/manufacturing leadership experience or similar Bachelor's degree strongly preferred Demonstrated success in leading a group of employees in accomplishing the goals for the area of responsibility. Experience in Domestic and International transportation including outbound freight. Experience managing inbound logistics, freight consolidation, ocean freight, air freight and various modes of surface transportation. Working knowledge of Customs trade regulations and transportation of Dangerous Goods Strong analytical abilities with a passion for data-inspired decision making Proven ability to navigate ambiguity, set strategy, and lead by influence. Strong communication skills and knowledge to facilitate managing internal & external relationships. Proven ability to navigate ambiguity, set strategy, and lead by influence. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Supervision and Coaching Continuous Improvement Experience: process improvement, daily and visual Management, kaizen leadership/participation, technical problem solving Ability to prioritize effectively and making tradeoffs across a range of tasks and initiatives
