The Fiber Splicer II is a mid-level field technician responsible for independently performing fusion splicing and testing of fiber optic cables in aerial and underground telecom networks. This role requires technical expertise in splicing techniques, troubleshooting, and network restoration while ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety.

Locations(s) Hiring For: Central Texas Killeen, TX Temple, TX Ft. Hood Copperas Cove, TX Key Responsibilities:
Perform fiber optic splicing, including single-mode and multi-mode cables, using fusion splicing methods. Conduct comprehensive testing using OTDR, power meter, and light source equipment. Interpret fiber schematics, splicing plans, and color codes to ensure proper connectivity. Create accurate splice documentation and as-builts using project specifications. Lead small crews and mentor junior fiber splicers on job site practices and safety. Troubleshoot and restore network outages quickly and effectively. Coordinate with construction and engineering teams to meet project milestones. Maintain and calibrate splicing and test equipment; ensure work meets customer and industry standards. Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; technical training in fiber splicing strongly preferred. 2-4 years of fiber splicing experience in field environments. Proficient in using fusion splicers (e.g., Fujikura, Sumitomo), OTDRs, and fiber testing tools. Strong understanding of fiber construction and documentation standards. Valid driver's license with a clean record; CDL preferred. Preferred Experience:
FOA Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or equivalent certification. Experience with FTTH, backbone, and ISP/OSP splicing projects. Familiarity with GIS-based documentation and digital reporting tools. Working Conditions:
Field-based work with exposure to outdoor elements, day and night shifts. Travel to multiple job sites within the region, with overnight stays possible. On-call rotation for emergency repairs and cutovers. Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind. Ability to climb utility poles and ladders up to 40 feet using proper fall protection equipment. Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally heavier loads with assistance. Manual dexterity to operate hand and power tools, handle small components, and complete fine motor tasks. Visual acuity required to read blueprints, operate machinery, and perform detailed work. Ability to hear and understand verbal instructions and communication in noisy work environments. Must be able to wear and work in required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility vests, and climbing gear. Ability to drive and operate company vehicles and trailers, with or without towing, as required. Extended periods of driving and working in elevated positions may be necessary.
