Position Summary:
The Materials Manager oversees all materials-related operations to ensure efficient support of plant production. This includes managing procurement, production planning, inventory control, warehousing, shipping/receiving, and logistics to meet customer demands while optimizing inventory and costs. Reports to Plant Manager.
Key Responsibilities: Manage production scheduling, material planning, procurement, inventory, warehousing, and shipping/receiving operations. Supervise, train, and evaluate up to 180 employees across materials functions. Maintain accurate ERP system data (QAD). Develop and report KPIs related to inventory, service, and cost. Ensure material availability while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory. Drive continuous improvement in inventory turnover, logistics, and cost reduction. Oversee safe and compliant material storage and handling procedures. Coordinate inbound/outbound logistics with carriers and customs brokers. Collaborate cross-functionally to meet production schedules and resolve material issues. Build relationships with suppliers, monitor vendor performance, and support sourcing initiatives. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field (MBA preferred). Minimum 5 years of experience in materials management within a manufacturing environment. Strong leadership skills with experience managing large teams. Proficient in ERP systems (QAD preferred) and Microsoft Office. Strong knowledge of inventory control, MRP, logistics, and lean principles. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. APICS certification a plus.
