Our Volunteer Business Mentors play a vital role in advancing our mission by providing one-on-one guidance, encouragement, and expertise to entrepreneurs and small business owners from underserved communities. Mentors help Black Connect members navigate the challenges of starting, managing, and growing their businesses.
Key Responsibilities
Build supportive, trust-based relationships with mentees.
Provide practical advice and feedback on business planning, marketing, operations, finance, and growth strategies.
Share professional experiences, insights, and industry knowledge to guide decision-making.
Assist mentees in setting and working toward short- and long-term business goals.
Help mentees identify resources, tools, and networks that support business success.
Participate in periodic training sessions and mentor meetings hosted by the organization.
Maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality in all mentee interactions.
Log mentor activities and provide feedback to program staff as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of professional experience in business, entrepreneurship, or a related field.
Expertise in one or more areas such as business development, finance, marketing, operations, legal, HR, technology, fundraising or strategic planning.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and the empowerment of underserved communities.
Ability to listen actively, coach constructively, and support mentee-led decision-making.
Previous mentoring or coaching experience is a plus but not required.
Must be fluent in English
