Job Description Job Title: Mammography Technologist I Profession: Mammography Technologist Specialty: N/A Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 1st Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience in performing mammography is preferred License: Required certification through ARRT in mammography within 12 months of hire Certifications: American Heart Association Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider or equivalent is required within 90 days of hire Must-Have: Post high school completion of an ARRT approved program in Radiologic Technology
Description: Performs mammographic exams. Responsible for identifying and resolving issues related to images, equipment, and quality control. Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical staff, students, and patients. Performs breast imaging related exams according to medical and department standards and protocol. Imaging is performed to obtain diagnostic quality examinations within proper radiation safety and OSHA guidelines. Exams are performed efficiently with a minimum of delay between patients following established protocols. Expected to consistently meet the schedule and quality requirements for all exams. Operates mammography department equipment according to protocols defined by manufacturer or other recognized authority. Recognizes and reports equipment malfunctions or other technical issues to appropriate resources. Prepares the exam room prior to the next patient's arrival to enhance department efficiency. Prepares the patient for the exam by providing a clear explanation of the procedure and answering questions. Offers appropriate instructions and positions to obtain maximum image quality. Addresses patient questions and concerns regarding mammography and breast procedures. Assists and thanks the patient at the conclusion of the exam. Produces high-quality images and ensures that all images are appropriately labeled and identified. Recognizes normal anatomy and physiology, normal variations, and pathology, adjusting the imaging process as needed. Assures that all applicable images are archived to PACS, and maintains the integrity of the data. Performs PACS reconciliation accurately and completely, assisting others with image quality concerns as needed. Demonstrates proficiency and knowledge of information systems related to imaging and reporting. Enters and schedules orders correctly, checks in patients, begins and ends exams, documents notes, and reviews patient history for pertinent clinical information. Performs end-of-day reconciliation for all exams performed. Looks for opportunities to increase department efficiency and foster a cohesive working environment. Regularly stocks supplies, removes dirty linen, cleans work areas, and ensures exam rooms are left clean and organized. Supports functions of the Lead or Quality Assurance technologist. Assists with routine quality control, answering phones, scheduling patients, coordinating inpatients, and providing instruction. Provides a positive teaching environment for co-workers, students, and new staff. Completes all required documentation in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring all information is complete and accurate. Prevents or eliminates potential problems by using intuitive skills and multitasking. Provides assistance to radiologists and other medical staff during all mammography exams. Prepares lab specimens and ensures timely transport. Demonstrates an understanding of infection control and sterile technique. Maintains the exam room area in a clean and orderly state according to infection control standards.
