Position Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and certified Asphalt Quality Control Technician to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local specifications. This role is responsible for overseeing the sampling, testing, and quality assurance of hot mix asphalt (HMA) and aggregate materials during both plant production and paving operations. The ideal candidate will be experienced, knowledgeable of DOT standards, and certified to perform and report test results using recognized procedures and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform and document daily quality control tests on asphalt mixtures at the plant and paving site.
• Conduct sampling, analysis, and reporting of asphalt and aggregate properties in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM, and ARDOT standards.
• Operate and calibrate field and lab equipment including nuclear density gauges, gyratory compactors, ovens, and sieves.
• Ensure mix production follows approved job mix formulas (JMF) and project specifications.
• Communicate real-time test results and support adjustments to maintain optimal material quality.
• Maintain organized and compliant records for internal use and agency review.
• Coordinate with DOT inspectors and project stakeholders to confirm specification compliance.
• Support development and improvement of internal QC/QA procedures and plans.
• Monitor and document compaction, temperature, gradation, asphalt content, and related mix characteristics.
• Prepare and submit required daily test logs, batch reports, and summaries.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Minimum 3 years of experience in asphalt quality control, aggregate testing, or related materials testing.

Current CTTP (Certified Technician Training Program) Certification in relevant areas
is
required , including:
o
Asphalt Testing
o
Aggregate Testing
o
Soils (preferred)
• Must be certified through the
Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT)
CTTP program.
•
Additional Required Certifications:
o
ARDOT Asphalt Certification
o
Nuclear Gauge Safety Certification
o ACI or NICET Level I/II (preferred)
• Proficient with applicable AASHTO and ASTM standards (e.g., T-166, T-209, T-30, T-308).
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Superpave mix designs and ARDOT quality processes.
• Familiarity with DOT submittal systems such as VETA or Site Manager.
• Experience coordinating with state DOT inspectors during plant or field audits.
Work Environment:
• Split between field and asphalt plant environments.
• Exposure to hot materials, dust, heavy equipment, and loud noise.
• Occasional night/weekend work depending on paving schedules.
Position Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must have the ability to work extended hours as required by the workload.
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in all types of terrain
• Able to meet all physical requirements such as standing, walking, climbing, stooping, bending, and lifting 50 pounds or more.
• Ability to work around loud noises and can tolerate being exposed to odors, gases, dust, etc.
• Must be able to work in extreme temperatures, in confined spaces, and in excavated areas.
