Leidos Defense Manufacturing is seeking talented Industrial Engineers (IE) to join a diverse team that is creating unique manufacturing solutions for our growing Defense Department customers. The position supports multiple manufacturing facilities—including Electronics Manufacturing, Mechanical Manufacturing, and Platform Integration Facility—to develop, document, and execute manufacturing processes, systems, and procedures for fabrication, machining, welding, painting, and assembly integration and testing.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform top‑level capacity planning and support Make vs. Buy decisions.
Develop process flows and road maps using simulation tools with inputs from the Manufacturing Team (Production, Manufacturing Engineer, Quality, Production Control).
Design work‑center layouts to ensure safety and on‑time delivery.
Improve process efficiency by analyzing engineering standards vs. actual run times and implementing lean manufacturing principles, process mapping, and root‑cause analysis.
Develop and maintain facility layouts in AutoCAD.
Design production constraint visual controls and metrics that reduce span‑time impacts to production.
Help develop standard processes and operating procedures for the Industrial Engineering Team to be utilized at all Defense Manufacturing Sector sites.
Develop metrics to measure plant and equipment capability output and identify bottlenecks.
Conduct machine capacity analyses to improve machining efficiency (tooling & equipment utilization).
Provide data to support and participate in Lean Improvement Events, Kaizen Blitz, Kaizen workshops, etc.
Work with quality engineering and production teams to initiate corrective actions to ensure product quality.
Analyze existing systems and processes to identify value‑added and non‑value‑added activities and solve manufacturing challenges.
Assist in long‑range planning for production launch activities, plant layouts, and engineering change control activities.
Assist in evaluating capacity planning for fabrication, machining, weld, paint, and assembly equipment to meet takt time and customer requirements.
Foster an environment of continuous improvement best practices across all manufacturing sites.
