As Plant Engineering Manager, you will lead the engineering, maintenance and technical operations of the facility, ensuring that all equipment, processes and infrastructure operate safely, efficiently and reliably. You’ll be responsible for developing preventive maintenance strategies, overseeing mechanical and electrical systems, and driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance throughput and quality for the sorting and recycling operations. Your leadership will ensure the facility meets its performance goals while maintaining high standards of safety, environmental compliance and operational integrity. You will also act as a strategic partner with operations, quality assurance, and logistics teams to align engineering efforts with business objectives. Your role involves coaching and mentoring engineering staff and contractors onsite, managing project budgets, selecting capital upgrades and implementing automation or reliability improvements to optimize plant performance. This is a senior blended role—part strategic engineering leader, part hands‑on technical expert—at a company committed to quality, sustainability and zero waste.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement and oversee preventive maintenance programs for critical plant equipment (sorting lines, conveyors, balers, robotics, electrical panels) and ensure adherence to schedules and KPIs.

Manage onsite engineering staff and contractors: assign work, provide technical oversight, monitor performance, and cultivate a continuous improvement culture.

Lead capital projects and engineering upgrades: scope requirements, manage vendors, control budgets, monitor timelines and ensure installation meets quality and safety standards.

Collaborate with operations and quality teams to troubleshoot equipment failures, identify root causes, recommend corrective action and implement reliability‑enhancement plans.

Maintain engineering documentation: equipment specs, maintenance logs, spare‑parts inventory, safety compliance records and audit‑ready files.

Monitor plant metrics (uptime, throughput, scrap rate, energy consumption, waste diversion) and drive engineering initiatives to optimize performance and support the company’s zero‑waste mission.

Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements related to plant equipment, safety and environmental standards. Instill a safety‑first mindset within the engineering team and broader facility.

Build and manage relationships with equipment vendors, consultants and internal stakeholders to stay current on emerging technologies, drive cost efficiencies and support long‑term sustainability goals.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or a related field; a Master’s or professional engineering certification (PE) is a plus.

Minimum of 7‑10 years of progressive engineering experience in an industrial/manufacturing or recycling context, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.

Demonstrated experience managing maintenance and engineering for heavy equipment, conveyors, automation systems, and facility infrastructure.

Strong project management skills: define scope, set budgets, manage timelines and deliver results on capital or upgrade projects.

Proven problem‑solving ability: root‑cause analysis, equipment reliability strategies and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma).

Excellent communication and leadership skills: lead multi‑discipline teams onsite, influence senior stakeholders and drive change in a dynamic environment.

Proficiency with maintenance management systems (CMMS), equipment monitoring tools and data analytics for performance tracking.

Commitment to safety, sustainability and operational excellence—aligned with the company’s focus on quality service and zero‑waste principles.

Benefits

Competitive salary and bonus structure reflective of a senior onsite leadership position in engineering.

Full‑time role with comprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance for you and eligible dependents.

Retirement savings plan with employer match.

PTO including vacation, holidays and sick leave.

Professional development opportunities: certifications, conferences and training programs.

A mission‑driven environment: join a company committed to sustainability, recycling and zero‑waste operations.

Opportunity to spearhead significant improvements and capital projects, shaping the future of plant operations and leaving a tangible legacy.
