Position Overview The Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency is currently seeking a full‑time OPO Surgical Recovery Coordinator. The coordinator is responsible for recovery, packaging, preservation and transportation of cadaveric organs to be used in surgical transplants in all Donor Service Area Hospitals within the confines of: Dade, Monroe, Broward, Collier, Palm Beach, St. Lucie counties and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas (over 90 hospitals).

Core Job Functions

Works with surgical staff in the clinical recovery, preservation, packaging and transportation of organs according to established guidelines and policies.

Coordinates with the staff in operating room for local procurements and abroad (i.e. requiring flight transportation) with clinical recovery and preservation of organs for transplantation, and undertakes extensive communications with transplant center, according to established guidelines.

Recovers and packages organs and tissues for research as guided by Medical Director or LAORA leadership in accordance with protocols established by partnered research entity.

Operates kidney preservation machine and maintains accurate clinical preservation records while on preservation duty.

Documents all recovery activities completely and accurately.

Assists with maintaining recovery instruments and equipment.

Provides training and continuing education to all recovery personnel.

Orders, stocks, receives, and rotates all durable and consumable supplies.

Works with other recovery agencies to ensure good working relationships and customer service.

Ensures recovery was done in accordance with regulatory agencies’ policies.

Ensures compliance with all OSHA and HIPPA protocols.

Maintains logs on all equipment and schedules monthly cleaning of recovery suite(s).

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Qualifications

Education:

Associate’s degree or medical certification, Licensure/Registration, Surgical Technician

Bachelor’s Degree preferred

CPTC Certification a plus

Experience:

Two years clinical experience/critical care experience

Relevant combination of education and work experience will be considered

Hospital Operating Room and/or Surgical Tech experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
