Role Description This is a full‑time on‑site role for a Staff Accountant – Accounts Payable, located in Paterson, NJ. The Staff Accountant – AP is responsible for processing and reconciling financial transactions, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, and supporting payroll, procurement, and audit preparation. This role works closely with the finance team to maintain compliance with financial policies and reporting requirements.
Accounts Payable & Reconciliation
Process, review, and reconcile accounts payable tasks , ensuring timely and accurate payments.
Verify documentation and request disbursements
as needed.
Prepare and review bank and credit card reconciliations
to ensure accuracy.
Research and resolve financial discrepancies
with vendors and internal teams.
Payroll & Financial Transactions
Process payroll
and
initiate quarterly payroll reconciliation
to ensure compliance and accuracy.
Reconcile financial transactions
and
review and maintain documentation
on a
monthly, quarterly, and annual basis .
Audit & Compliance Support
Prepare assigned audit schedules
and respond to requests from auditors.
Ensure financial documentation is properly maintained
for audit readiness.
Budgeting & Procurement
Assist in drafting annual budgets , providing financial data and insights as needed.
Oversee procurement processes , reviewing and approving orders for compliance.
Provide financial information as requested
and assist in the preparation of reports.
Support the finance team with ad‑hoc financial tasks and projects .
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field .
3+ years of accounting and bookkeeping experience .
Strong knowledge of
accounts payable, payroll, reconciliations, and financial reporting .
Experience in
nonprofit or educational finance preferred .
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Proficiency in
financial software (QuickBooks, Intacct, FundEZ, etc.) and Excel .
Strong
attention to detail, problem‑solving, and time management
skills.
Experience in a non‑profit organization is a plus
