MEP Construction Project Manager

Overview This is a long‑term opportunity for a Fortune 25 company building Data Center new builds across the nation. The position will be onsite in Kansas City, MO 5 days a week and involves managing the MEP portion of the Data Center build and overseeing vendors. Previous Data Center new build experience is preferred but not required. Preferred experience includes Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing new builds on large commercial or industrial projects and ability to handle multiple simultaneous projects. Primavera P6 experience is a plus.
Responsibilities
Manage the onsite construction, commissioning, and turnover of Data Center projects.
Support the Lead Construction Manager, including contractor, designer, and vendor management.
Ownership of the construction scope, including retrofits of existing data halls and new buildouts across the leased portfolio in North America.
Provide project coordination between contractors, consultants, and cross‑functional partners.
Build and maintain strong relationships with cross‑functional partners, consultants, vendors, and contractors.
Identify and align cross‑functional opportunities to drive efficiency through innovation, process, and accountability.
Provide project planning and scoping, working with partners and customers to sequence and package work scopes for execution.
Aid in creation and maintenance of project schedules with support from Project Controls and Scheduling.
Manage the cost‑change process and negotiate best pricing in partnership with cross‑functional matrixed teams.
Manage the schedule and associated risks to ensure reliable and predictable turnover dates; report opportunities, risks, and mitigations upward.
Conduct monthly WIP walks, validate work in place for invoicing, and conduct regular site walks with contractors and partners to track progress.
Manage relationships with contractors and designers.
Assist with capital project budgets and provide ROM construction cost estimates.
Manage monthly CapEx forecasting for all project‑related costs.
Provide analysis and action plans based on weekly project status reports (financial, schedule, quality).
Manage Method of Procedures (MOPs) for retrofit/remedy work in live data centers.
Facilitate interaction between contractor, MET and 3rd‑party QA/QC teams.
Lead project closeout.
Escalate key issues quickly to the Construction Manager.
Promote continuous improvement, partnership, and teamwork.
Support and lead an industry‑leading safety culture and program.
Qualifications
7–10 years of experience directly related to the design or construction of data centers or critical infrastructure.
General knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and connectivity systems.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in different phases.
Mission critical, infrastructure, and/or Data Center construction experience.
Experience in commissioning of retrofit and new data center build‑outs.
Knowledge of CPM scheduling practices and familiarity with Primavera P6 software.
Functional in MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $60.00–$90.00 per hour.
