Location Colorado Springs, CO – Schriever Space Force Base

Clearance Required Active Secret Clearance (or higher)

Shift & Core Hours Day shift – Occasional off‑shift, extended, or weekend support may be required. Core Hours: 0900–1500 with flexibility to arrive earlier or later Monday through Friday.

Travel Up to 10% – Occasional local travel may be required to support off‑site customers and projects.

Position Overview LaunchTech is seeking a Network Virtualization Engineer to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). This position provides critical support for virtualized network buildouts and deployments to the C2BMC Test Facility. You’ll work across system administration, engineering, and cybersecurity teams to maintain a high‑performing and compliant virtual infrastructure supporting national defense missions.

What You’ll Do

Serve as a Network Virtualization Engineer and Developer supporting network buildout and deployments to the C2BMC Test Facility for the MDA.

Work on complex assignments and perform a wide range of VMware system administration activities with minimal supervision.

Provide root‑cause analysis for recurring or critical issues.

Collaborate with system administrators, network engineers, and cybersecurity teams to maintain a high‑quality test environment for the Government customer.

Perform vulnerability remediation and mitigation to reduce cybersecurity risks and ensure DoD compliance.

Conduct daily system monitoring, system backups and restorations, and application upgrades to ensure optimal and continuous operations.

Document system changes and actions in appropriate systems of record to ensure accurate historical data.

Advise Government customers on system status, optimization, and improvement efforts.

Assist system administration teams with the deployment of new virtual machines.

Perform administration of virtualization environments, including troubleshooting, break/fix activities, patching, remediation, and system audit log reviews.

Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience briefing customers and management.

Successful Candidate Will Have

Strong understanding of troubleshooting and configuration of VMware, including protocols, switching, best‑practice configurations, connectivity, and networking concepts.

Basic Requirements

10+ years of general full‑time work experience (may be reduced with advanced education).

7+ years of directly related experience.

1+ year of experience working in a management or leadership role.

Experience with Internet Protocols (DNS, HTTP, SMTP, SSL); firewall configuration and troubleshooting; and multiple network types of telecommunications infrastructures.

Effective communication with excellent writing and presentation skills using Microsoft PowerPoint and Visio.

Collaborative teamwork and the ability to work independently on large field projects.

Deep understanding of Foundational VCF Infrastructure, including Virtualization (vSphere), Networking (NSX), and Storage (vSAN).

Ability to use SDDC Manager to patch, upgrade, and provide overall system maintenance.

Fundamental understanding of traffic flow through logical routers and the ability to implement these concepts in an NSX environment.

Experience configuring distributed stateful firewalling, NAT, load balancing, and micro‑segmentation using NSX.

Experience with design, installation, upgrading, and migration of storage using VMware vSAN.

Ability to migrate virtual machines and workloads from deprecated versions of vSphere to VMware Cloud Foundation.

Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (Security+, CySA, etc.) or higher.

Active DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Desired Requirements

Demonstrated understanding of the project management lifecycle and related processes.

Experience with PIM, L2 and L3 multicast, and Type I encryption devices.

Experience with VXLAN, Juniper Apstra, VMware Aria, and RHEL Ansible.

Experience with HPE server products.

Experience creating and configuring virtual distributed switches.

VMware certification such as VCTA, VCP‑DCV, VCAP Design, VCAP Deploy, or VCDX‑DCV.

Knowledge of Missile Defense, DoD communications systems, and MDIOC operations.

Certified Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Juniper Networks Certified Associate (JNCIA).

Experience with network monitoring.

Experience with Python or PowerShell programming and scripting.

Degree in an IT or Engineering‑related discipline.

Understanding of development life cycles such as SELC, ITIL, or SDLC.

Compensation Expected to pay $110,000 – $130,000 annually, depending on experience, education, and certifications directly related to the position.
