The Staff Psychologist provides professional psychologist services in a Comprehensive Weight Management Program as a Behavioral Medicine provider within the VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System. Responsibilities include: Provides a full range of mental and behavioral health interventions, including individual and group psychotherapy and psycho‑education interventions. Interviews patients, determines the type of assessment battery needed, conducts testing, interprets results and produces reports with conclusions and/or recommendations. Uses new or experimental techniques consistent with accepted clinical‑trial procedures and ethical principles of care. Presents informed reports or educates multidisciplinary staff on the use of newly proven or evidence‑based interventions. Consults with medical and/or mental health staff on the development or evaluation of mental and/or behavioral health intervention programs. Provides comprehensive professional care documentation in the patient record system, adhering with timeliness standards for quality care. Monitors patient’s progress, determines when reassessment is appropriate and adjusts intervention plans accordingly. Serves as a primary provider for Veterans in assigned clinical settings, including managing and coordinating treatment or care, based on clinical needs, and making referrals during treatment when clinically indicated. Basic Requirements : United States Citizenship. English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Education: Doctoral degree in psychology from an APA/CPA/CPA accredited program; specialty consistent with assignment. OR doctoral degree in any psychology area with a successful respecialization program meeting APA/CPA accreditation and specialty consistency. OR doctoral degree from 1951‑1978 with a dissertation primarily psychological in nature. Internship: Accredited APA/CPA program internship experience, or alternative acceptable programs per VHA policy. OR board certification in psychologist specialty (current). Applicants from 1951‑1978 doctoral programs may fulfill internship requirement via supervised internship experience. Licensure: Full, current, unrestricted license to practice psychology at doctoral level in a U.S. state, territory, or DC. Non‑licensed applicants may be temporarily appointed under 38 U.S.C. 7405(c)(2)(B) for up to two years with supervision. Grandfathering Provision may apply to current VHA employees who meet criteria. Grade Determinations : GS‑11: No additional experience beyond basic requirement. GS‑12: At least one full year of professional psychologist experience equivalent to GS‑11 level; demonstrate knowledge, skills, abilities, treatment design, research, and collaboration. Knowledge and application of professional psychological treatments and assessment methods. Design and implementation of effective treatment strategies. Incorporation of new clinical procedures. Conduct research activities including project design and execution. Perform basic research tasks within established research teams. GS‑13: At least two additional years of experience, including one year equivalent to GS‑12 level, with active professional practice or supervised post‑doctoral training, and current unrestricted license. Knowledge of professional treatments for varied patient populations. Professional advice and consultation in behavioral health. Knowledge of clinical research literature.
