Role Summary We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer to design, implement, and support high‑performing, secure, and scalable network infrastructures across our enterprise and commercial environments. You’ll be part of a forward‑thinking team responsible for delivering 99.999% network uptime, driving automation initiatives, and ensuring our infrastructure keeps pace with the company’s growth. This position is located in Normal, IL and reports to the Manager of Network Engineering.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, and optimize LAN/WAN, wireless, and data center network solutions.
Lead complex network projects across multi‑site commercial and enterprise environments.
Build scalable architectures that support business growth and site expansion.
Manage and maintain core network services and infrastructure.
Partner with cross‑functional teams to align networking solutions with business needs.
Automate provisioning, monitoring, and configuration using tools such as Python, Ansible, and APIs.
Conduct root cause analysis and ensure rapid resolution of high‑priority incidents.
Improve observability, telemetry, and alerting capabilities for better network insight.
Contribute to and enforce standards, documentation, and change management practices.
Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge‑sharing across the team.
Participate in on‑call rotation to provide network support.
Qualifications
7+ years of progressive experience in network engineering.
Strong expertise and experience in enterprise‑grade routing, switching, wireless (e.g. Cisco, Juniper Mist).
Deep understanding of protocols such as BGP, STP, HSRP/VRRP, DHCP/DNS, TCP/IP.
Experience in data center network design and support including F5 load balancers and Cisco Nexus.
Experience designing and operating large‑scale resilient networks in highly available, low‑latency environments.
Experience with network monitoring and observability tools (e.g., ThousandEyes, PRTG, Grafana).
Strong understanding of firewalls, VPNs, and network segmentation for security compliance (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA).
Strong automation or scripting experience (Python, Ansible, REST APIs).
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Excellent documentation, communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple high‑priority projects and meet deadlines.
Team‑oriented mindset with a proactive attitude.
Pay Disclosure Salary Range:
USD $98,500 – $123,100 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
Benefits Summary Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full‑time and part‑time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Full‑time employee coverage is effective on the first day of employment. Part‑time employee coverage is effective the first of the month following 90 days of employment.
