Primary Purpose of Position The purpose of this mathematics/physics tenure‑track Assistant/Associate Professor of Physics is to develop an astronomy and astrophysics program, including research and courses, to provide academic support, enrichment, research, and work opportunities for Mathematics/Physics students at NCCU.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Ability to engage in effective and respectful communication, both written and oral.

Ability to provide instruction in physics at all levels, including undergraduate and graduate, and lower‑division computational courses using evidence‑based or research‑based pedagogical instruction.

Ability to create a sustainable research program of interest to the astrophysics community and funding agencies.

Ability to effectively interact with colleagues and supervise student researchers.

Computational experience in observational cosmology and time‑domain astrophysics.

Minimum Education/Experience Ph.D. in Physics and/or related Astronomy or Astrophysics and 5 years of experience delivering support services in a STEM educational setting.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional:

Teach a range of physics courses at the undergraduate level, introductory astronomy, computer and computational science courses, and graduate‑level courses as appropriate; develop astronomy and astrophysics courses for upper‑division physics majors and MS graduate students.

Research:

Contribute to major research projects (e.g., Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope supernova project) and develop independent funding to build a sustainable research program; lead or co‑lead independent scholarly research and supervise undergraduate and graduate research.

Public Service:

Contribute to department, college, and university through service projects and committee activities; provide academic advising, hold office hours, and perform other normal duties of NCCU faculty at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor.
