Position Summary The Mechanical Design Engineer I is responsible for designing customer-specified, high‑voltage cable accessories built and engineered to G&W’s quality standards. The right individual will be self‑motivated and results‑oriented to join our fast‑paced, collaborative work environment that offers consistent learning opportunities and problem‑solving experience. We are offering the unique responsibility to be a contributing member to our engineering team in the following:
Design to customer‑provided specification within a team environment
Provide design competency to industry standards (IEEE, NEC, IEC, ANSI, UL, NEMA, etc.)
Design products to internal engineering design standards and best practices within customer lead time and quality expectations
Coach, maintain and assist technical aptitude among design team members
Be a change agent in department and company by identifying and resolving root causes through problem‑solving activities
Provide technical support for internal and external customers
Collaborate cross‑functionally to support and provide technical aptitude for company and departmental projects as needed (e.g. Product Development, Aftermarket Support, Application Engineering, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing)
Required Experience
Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Relevant Discipline
CAD Experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and has demonstrated presentation skills to diverse audiences
Strong analytical design and quantitative problem‑solving skills
Experience
CREO CAD Software experience
Leadership and Training
Change Management experience
Continuous improvement initiatives
Root Cause Analysis / Problem‑Solving strategies
ISO Certified Manufacturing Environment experience
Reliability Design Tools
Design For Manufacturability (DFM), Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T), Design of Experiments (DOE)
Experience with Oracle J.D. Edwards Business System
Experience with Industry Standards
Related power distribution experience
