Position Revenue Tax Auditor I (NS), Grade NC13

Description Of Work Join our team and make a significant impact by ensuring taxpayers are complying with North Carolina tax laws and providing revenue to support state operations and services. These full‑time, permanent positions require a hybrid remote work schedule and offer state benefits, including health insurance, paid vacation, paid sick time, paid holidays, and retirement. Auditors work out of one of the eleven Service Centers across the state. The minimum starting salary is $54,137.

The primary purpose of a Tax Auditor I is to examine individual income tax returns and records to ensure taxpayer compliance with the Revenue laws of North Carolina. Responsibilities include reviewing and auditing individual income tax returns, maintaining an audit plan, selecting audit candidates, scheduling taxpayer interviews, reviewing records, and preparing and submitting audit reports for timely review. Auditors perform work in a timely fashion and effectively communicate complex and technical information to taxpayers.

Responsibilities

Communicate complex technical information effectively to taxpayers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Basic knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code and income tax.

Basic proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing software.

Basic knowledge of auditing and accounting principles and practices.

Recruitment Range $54,137 - $84,388
