Controller

Primary Responsibilities The Controller is responsible for safeguarding company assets and ensuring the accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions through effective internal controls and audit disciplines. This role oversees all accounting operations, including accounts payable, cash disbursements, billing, collections, payroll, fixed assets, and general ledger accounting.
Key responsibilities include:
Guiding financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
Managing and improving the accuracy and efficiency of day-to-day accounting activities.
Preparing and analyzing monthly financial statements and reports for company leadership.
Developing financial strategies aligned with organizational goals.
Providing financial analysis tools for business initiatives, capital expenditures, and special projects.
Preparing and monitoring budgets; analyzing variances and recommending corrective actions.
Managing banking relationships and optimizing cash flow, investments, and credit resources.
Coordinating with third parties such as auditors, insurance representatives, and financial institutions.
Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Leading, mentoring, and evaluating accounting and finance staff.
Serving as a key financial and human resources advisor across departments.
Maintaining current professional and technical knowledge through continuing education and networking.
Principal Accountabilities Management:
Maintain and enforce documented accounting policies and procedures.
Oversee accounting department operations and structure to meet departmental goals.
Provide effective leadership to accounting personnel.
Oversee accounting for subsidiary entities, ensuring consistent controls and reporting.
Transactions:
Ensure timely and accurate accounts payable and receivable processes.
Manage cash disbursements, reconciliations, and debt obligations.
Maintain the chart of accounts and accounting records.
Implement and monitor internal controls to ensure data integrity.
Reporting:
Prepare and distribute timely financial statements and management reports.
Coordinate the preparation of annual reports and audits.
Establish benchmarks for operational performance.
Develop budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
Provide financial insights for investment, pricing, and contract decisions.
Compliance:
Oversee audit preparation and manage auditor relationships.
Monitor debt levels and comply with covenants.
Ensure compliance with all reporting and tax filing requirements.
Required Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Minimum of seven years of relevant experience, preferably in mortgage banking or a related industry.
CPA license preferred but not required.
Proficiency in QuickBooks Enterprise required; familiarity with Caseware software is a plus.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting standards.
Excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
