Summary The Lead Service Engineer is enthusiastic about EVs and a self‑starter who will work closely with customers and Field Service Technicians to ensure that Highland’s electric vehicles and charging stations are working properly and that buses can get students to where they need to be. No day will look the same, but responsibilities will include team oversight and escalation support to technician staff performing original equipment manufacturer‑approved testing, repairs, and troubleshooting customer issues. Highland will provide the relevant training to repair all local equipment including basic electric vehicle functions, Level 2 EV chargers to DC Fast Chargers, and communications equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Apply maintenance KPI metric reporting such as PM compliance, Labor Utilization, and CPMs to drive overall uptime and reduce operational cost
Represent the company at customer locations with the highest standards of professional conduct
Coordinate, manage and serve as first escalation point for technician staff
Provide repair and maintenance assistance to junior technician staff
Retain a clean and safe work environment and bring any unsafe practices or conditions to management
Diagnose malfunctions and perform electric vehicle and charger repairs (e.g. adjust/test steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking systems, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, etc.) and related assigned duties within qualification level, in accordance with all relevant Federal, State/Provincial and local guidelines and requirements. Test‑drives vehicles to ensure repair resolved
Maintain detailed and timely documentation for troubleshooting and repairs, record time and materials used for each assignment in asset management platform
Assist in managing external support vendors to follow up and document repairs being made to Highland’s assets
Perform road calls and on‑road repairs as assigned
Undergo electric vehicle and charger OEM and internal trainings
Oversee inventory within a given area or responsibility including both stationary and mobile inventory sites hosted by Field Service Technician I’s
Duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications
Minimum of 5+ years Electrician, Electric Vehicle, or Medium/Heavy duty truck Fleet repair experience
2 years Supervisory or Lead experience, preferably in a multisite environment
Advanced Diagnostic, Electrical, and AC skills required
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Natural initiative to work autonomously
Independent problem‑solving skills
Ability to manage, lead and support technician staff
Effective written and verbal communication skills with customers, team members and department leadership
Possess the recommended tools for a Medium Duty technician as well as electrical diagnostics tooling
Flexibility to work bus depot hours (early morning to afternoon) and weekends (when on scheduled shift)
Clean Driving Record is required
Requirements within 12 months of employment: Commercial Driver’s License Required / Minimum 3 ASE certifications required (bonus compensation available if greater) / Minimum of 4 OEM Certifications required (bonus compensation available if greater)
