Job Overview

The Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) is responsible for coordinating and administering a comprehensive health care program for all student athletes. The ATC provides immediate care to injured athletes, implements prevention strategies, evaluates, manages, and rehabilitates injuries, and advises coaches, doctors, athletes, and parents. The ATC ensures athletes participate only when capable and that physicians’ instructions are understood and followed.

Roles And Responsibilities

Develop a plan for emergency health care of injured athletes; evaluate and treat injuries, initiate and process injury reports, maintain first aid supplies, and render on‑site decisions regarding playing status.

Supervise the athletic training room, attend practices and games, and assist staff in selection and fitting of equipment.

Conduct in‑service programs for coaching staff on injury prevention and care.

Ensure current CPR and First Aid certification of all coaches through appropriate instruction.

Assist administrators, coaches, and officials in decisions regarding playing surface and atmospheric conditions that affect player safety.

Perform related work as required.

Qualifications

Certified by the National Athletic Trainer Association and maintain those standards.

Licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine as an Athletic Trainer or be eligible for licensure.

Effective communication skills with students, parents, administrators, and medical personnel.

Certified First Aid/CPR Instructor or willing to complete certification upon hiring.

Additional Details

This is a part‑time, hourly, non‑benefits position. Hours are as needed with no guaranteed minimum.

Salary: Band 16
