The Opportunity Our client, a highly regarded middle-market private equity firm with $3B+ AUM and a 20+ year track record of operational value creation, is seeking a
Managing Director
to lead deal origination, execution, and portfolio oversight. This is a
Director-level hire
reporting directly to the Founding Partners and joining a lean, high-performance investment committee.
Key Responsibilities
Deal Sourcing & Execution : Build proprietary deal flow in targeted sectors (e.g., business services, healthcare services, tech-enabled services, or industrials). Lead all aspects of transaction execution including financial modeling, due diligence coordination, financing, and legal documentation.
Portfolio Management : Serve as Board Director on 3–5 portfolio companies. Drive value creation through operational improvements, add-on M&A, and exit planning.
Firm Leadership : Mentor Principals and VPs; shape investment strategy; represent the firm to LPs, bankers, and advisors.
Capital Raising Support : Partner with Founders on fundraising (next fund target: $750M–$1B).
Candidate Profile
Experience : 12–18 years in private equity (preferred) or investment banking/M&A at a bulge‑bracket or elite boutique. Must have closed
5+ control buyouts
($75M–$300M EV) as a lead professional.
Track Record : Demonstrated IRR >25% across multiple realized investments; experience scaling businesses from $10M to $50M+ EBITDA.
Education : Bachelor’s from a top‑tier university; MBA strongly preferred (HBS/Stanford/Wharton/Columbia).
Skills : Expert‑level financial modeling, thesis‑driven underwriting, operational playbook execution, and executive‑level board presence.
Cultural Fit : Entrepreneurial, low‑ego, intellectually rigorous, and relentlessly driven.
Compensation
Base Salary : $350,000 – $430,000
Carried Interest : Top‑quartile carry pool (2–3% of fund‑level profits) with accelerated vesting for early fund contributors
Annual Bonus : 100–200% of base, tied to deal velocity and realized returns
Benefits : Full medical, 401(k) match, deferred comp, and co‑investment rights
Location & Travel
Primary office: Midtown Manhattan (hybrid: 4 days in‑office)
Travel: 30–40% (deal sourcing, board meetings, conferences)
