Job Description The Safety Specialist is responsible for the implementation, management, and continuous improvement of the occupational safety, industrial hygiene, emergency response, and contractor management programs at the Veolia Beaumont site. This position reports to the Beaumont site EHS Manager. As a Safety Specialist you will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Shipping / Logistics, Quality, and the Engineering departments to identify and control risks within chemical manufacturing and associated operations. You will be responsible for developing, proposing, and implementing mitigation strategies and programs. You will be responsible for maintaining and continuously improving EHS programs at the site and supporting other departments in complying with regulatory and Veolia requirements. You will work closely with Veolia's corporate EHS team.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain Safety programs in compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA) and Veolia’s internal standards
Implement and operate Safety and Industrial Hygiene standardized processes and manage related electronic systems
Improve emergency response planning
Coordinate emergency response training and drills (fire, hazmat, medical) and lead tabletop exercises
Coordinate with local emergency services to ensure preparedness for emergency events
Define and track safety metrics and analyze data from incident reports to improve safety
Manage contractor safety programs including EHS screening (through ISNetworld), contractor training through the local safety training council (ISTC), contractor on-site orientation, and reporting on the on-site safety performance of contractors
Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses of incidents and near-miss events to identify root causes and recommend sustainable corrective actions
Support and facilitate risk assessments (Job Safety Analysis, Management of Change, etc.)
Become a subject matter expert on Gensuite (digital EHS management system)
Support project teams to ensure all aspects of safety and emergency response are evaluated and addressed in projects
Develop and deliver training programs for employees on internal safety standards, guidelines, and industry best practices
Prepare detailed reports and presentations on safety performance and recommendations for management review
Stay updated on changes in regulations and adjust PSM programs accordingly
Lead initiatives aimed at continuous improvement of safety performance and overall operational excellence
Utilize technical expertise and industry knowledge to propose innovative solutions to safety challenges
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or related field
Minimum 6 years of experience in EHS, Engineering or related fields, with minimum of 3 years of progressive Occupational Safety and/or Industrial Hygiene experience
Working knowledge of hazards and controls for high risk activities in the chemical industry, including: hazardous material handling, control of hazardous energy, confined space, excavation/trenching, lifting operations, hot work, working at heights, and electrical work
Deep understanding of work permitting and job safety analysis (JSA)
Knowledge of OSHA regulatory requirements
Familiarity with industry safety standards, including NFPA, ANSI, and NEC standards
Understanding of chemical manufacturing processes and associated hazards, including flammability, toxicity, reactivity, corrosivity, etc.
Initiative to drive continuous improvement in occupational safety programs
Experience conducting safety training
Fluent in English, with strong oral and written communication skills to interpret OSHA, and other regulations and liaise with a variety of stakeholders
Desired Qualifications
Experience developing emergency response plans and leading table‑top drills
Experience with OSHA VPP
Holds a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification
Familiarity with Gensuite
Knowledge of SAP
