Fresh off a successful funding round, this cutting‑edge startup (Series B) is building chip‑scale, solid‑state THz vision technology that delivers exceptional imaging performance and paves the way for new possibilities in mobility, defense, and beyond.

They are looking for an experienced and driven Functional Safety Manager with a strong background in Quality Management to lead safety‑critical activities in our automotive semiconductor development programs. This role is crucial in ensuring our chip designs meet the stringent functional safety and quality requirements of the automotive industry, including the ISO 26262 and IATF 16949 standards.

The successful candidate will collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to drive functional safety compliance from concept through production, while also leading initiatives to uphold and enhance our quality management systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES Functional Safety (ISO 26262 – Automotive Specific):

Lead the implementation and management of functional safety activities for automotive chip (SoC/ASIC) programs.

Develop, maintain, and review safety concepts, safety plans, and technical safety requirements.

Conduct or supervise safety analyses (FMEA, FMEDA, DFA, FTA) throughout the development lifecycle.

Own the creation and maintenance of safety work products, including safety case documentation and safety manuals.

Interface with OEMs, Tier‑1 customers, and assessors to communicate safety goals, progress, and compliance.

Support ASIL decomposition, SEooC strategy, and hardware‑software interface definitions in line with ISO 26262.

Quality Management (IATF 16949 / Automotive SPICE):

Implement and improve quality systems to ensure compliance with IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 requirements.

Lead internal and supplier audits focused on both functional safety and product quality.

Collaborate with design, verification, and validation teams to embed quality into the automotive chip development process.

Drive continuous improvement, non‑conformance resolution, and CAPA processes for safety‑related issues.

Ensure effective traceability and documentation across the safety lifecycle, supporting ASPICE alignment where applicable.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.

8+ years of experience in semiconductor or SoC design, with at least 3+ years in a functional safety leadership role in the automotive domain.

Deep knowledge of ISO 26262, especially Part 5 (hardware) and Part 11 (SEooC).

Hands‑on experience with safety and quality tools such as Medini Analyze, FMEDA software, and requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Polarion).

Proven experience implementing or maintaining quality management systems based on IATF 16949 and ISO 9001.

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, especially with customers and certification bodies.

ADVANTAGEOUS

TÜV or equivalent Functional Safety Certification.

Experience with ASPICE and integration of safety processes into ASPICE frameworks.

Knowledge of automotive cybersecurity standards (ISO/SAE 21434) is a plus.

Familiarity with OEM‑specific safety and quality requirements (e.g., from VW, BMW, Toyota, etc.).
