Director of Solar Development

The Director will lead the advancement of a massive existing pipeline, with a focus on successfully executing
mid-to-late-stage projects
through to construction handover. This position requires an experienced, entrepreneurial developer with a proven track record of managing a team and bringing complex, high-profile renewable energy projects to Notice to Proceed (NTP). Responsibilities I. Strategic Leadership & Team Management Lead and mentor
the regional development team, fostering cross-functional collaboration with engineering, environmental, finance, and construction teams to achieve shared project goals. Manage the regional development budget, ensuring the prudent use of company resources to maximize investment opportunities. Interact frequently with
senior management
for reporting, strategy development, and execution planning across the development portfolio. Provide clear direction and alignment to various internal stakeholders (e.g., engineering, underwriting, operations, treasury, risk, tax, finance) to drive project success. II. Project Execution & Risk Mitigatio Manage the entire development process for
solar and hybrid solar+storage
projects, successfully structuring projects through final investment decisions (FID) and construction handover. Oversee critical project decision points, including obtaining land use permits and securing high-profile interconnection agreements ( GIAs ). Perform comprehensive
risk assessments , business impact analyses, and strategic selection of mitigation measures to advance projects while minimizing risk. Ensure strong
commercial understanding
of value and risk drivers related to project technical aspects (interconnection, resource assessment, constructability, design). Spearhead all project approvals and prepare transaction approval documentation and presentations required for deal closure. III. Commercial Negotiation & Stakeholder Relations Identify strategic business opportunities and evaluate competitive dynamics to ensure the pipeline is positioned for maximum value. Develop and finalize
offtake contracts
(PPAs),
GIAs, and EPC agreements , effectively negotiating commercial terms with counterparties in a professional and ethical manner. Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with all external stakeholders, including
customers
(from C-Level to procurement),
landowners , community members, local officials, and transmission owners. Champion a strong
customer focus , understanding specific customer needs to structure and deliver tailored business solutions. Qualifications The ideal candidate is an
experienced, entrepreneurial leader
with
5+ years
in
utility-scale renewable energy development . Experience & Education:
Master's degree (Finance, Business, Economics, or Engineering) required, coupled with
5+ years
of development experience and
1+ year of managing direct reports . Market Expertise:
Must possess
extensive knowledge
of wholesale electricity markets (PJM, MISO, SPP, SERC), the interconnection process, real estate contracts, and renewable energy policy/incentives. Project Success:
Proven track record of
successfully developing and building
renewable energy projects through to completion. Leadership & Acumen:
Demonstrated strong
financial and business acumen , excellent
executive-level presentation
skills, and the ability to
lead and collaborate
effectively in a fast-paced, "flat" organizational structure. Key Skills:
