What you will do

We are seeking a highly experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Leader with extensive expertise in U.S. environmental regulations and a strong track record of successfully permitting complex industrial facilities. This role is pivotal to the development and operation of a greenfield lead‑acid battery recycling facility, ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. The EHS Leader will oversee environmental permitting, manage all regulatory agency interactions, and implement robust EHS programs to support safe, compliant, and sustainable operations.

How you will do it

Provide EHS guidance through the design, construction, commissioning, and operational phases of the facility. Integrate EHS considerations into the engineering design process, equipment selection, and site layout. Support environmental impact assessments, community engagement, and sustainability initiatives. Lead the preparation, submission, and negotiation of all environmental permits required for construction and operation. Serve as the primary liaison with EPA, state environmental agencies, and local regulators. Track and interpret regulatory changes affecting the facility and ensure proactive compliance. Develop compliance strategies for RCRA, CAA, CWA, EPCRA, CERCLA, TSCA, and state‑specific environmental requirements. Develop and implement comprehensive EHS management systems to ensure compliance with OSHA and industry standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. 10 years of EHS experience with at least 5 years focused on environmental permitting for industrial or recycling facilities. Direct experience in obtaining and managing air, water, waste, and hazardous‑materials permits. Strong knowledge of EPA regulations and state‑specific permitting processes. Demonstrated success in greenfield or brownfield industrial project permitting.

Preferred qualifications

Experience in battery recycling, smelting, or metals processing. Master’s degree or professional certification (CSP, CIH, CHMM, PE). Experience with ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 management systems.
