Construction Inspector My name is Bill Stevens, and I have a new full time Construction Inspector opportunity available for a major engineering firm located in Islip, Long Island that could be of interest to you, please review my specification below. The work schedule will be onsite in the firm’s offices in Islip.

This position will be paying a competitive fulltime salary in the range of $145,000 - $155,000 plus an outstanding benefits package, P.E (Professional Engineer) education assistance and bonus structure.

Responsibilities

Serve as the engineering firm’s representative on-site, providing daily oversight of contractors’ work to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, codes, and regulations.

Monitor and document construction activities, including materials testing, quality control, safety compliance, and project progress.

Review and interpret contract documents, shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals.

Prepare detailed daily inspection reports, maintain accurate project records, and track progress against schedules.

Conduct field inspections of structural and civil components, including foundations, concrete, steel, utilities, roadways, and site improvements.

Coordinate with contractors, design engineers, utility companies, and municipal agencies to resolve technical and field-related issues.

Review change orders, progress payments, and assist with project closeout documentation.

Ensure construction adheres to all federal, state, and local codes as well as client requirements.

Current Projects Current projects include an Electric Power Generating Station in Brooklyn, NY where the firm is overseeing the rehabilitation of a large pier including the encasement of piles below the waterline as well as overseeing geotechnical investigations of potential future development site.

Other current project sites include a Generating Station (façade and structural remediation efforts) and power plant (pier and pile cap restoration projects).

Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering required.

Professional Engineer (PE) license in NY is but it is NOT required, in fact the firm will take steps to sponsor for the ideal candidates (PE) as well.

More than five years of experience in construction inspection, engineering, or construction management.

Knowledge of NYSDOT, NYCDDC, or other local agency standards would be a plus only and is NOT required.

Strong understanding of structural systems, site/civil construction, materials testing, and safety standards.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and stakeholder coordination.

Ability to work in the field in varying conditions and occasionally travel to project sites throughout New York City (5 boroughs), Nassau, and Suffolk Counties.
