Summary The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is a vital role responsible for ensuring the integrity and compliance of all incoming materials and components used in our complex Rack Integration Services. This position focuses on driving quality excellence throughout the supply chain, from supplier selection and qualification to continuous improvement of raw material quality. The SQE will proactively manage supplier performance, lead audits, and utilize advanced quality tools to prevent defects, reduce costs, and ensure our suppliers meet Celestica’s stringent quality and technical specifications.

Detailed Description Supplier Quality Assurance and Development

Leads the qualification and approval of new suppliers and materials, including performing Supplier Audits (system and process) and managing the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process.

Conducts Product Part Approval Process (PPAP) and First Article Inspection (FAI) activities for critical components to ensure readiness for New Product Introduction (NPI) and mass production.

Manages supplier performance metrics (PPM, on-time delivery, compliance) and develops strategic plans to reduce supplier-caused defects and improve incoming quality yields.

Collaborates with Commodity Management and Engineering to evaluate technical capabilities and define quality standards for key supplier partnerships.

Problem Resolution and Continuous Improvement

Initiates and manages the Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR) process, leading structured Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and utilizing problem-solving tools like 8D methodology to resolve complex material quality issues.

Drives supplier continuous improvement activities using Lean principles and quality management system best practices to achieve zero-defect status.

Works closely with internal Incoming Quality Control (IQC) and Manufacturing teams to establish appropriate inspection criteria and sampling plans.

Monitors and reports on critical supplier quality trends, escalating high-risk issues to management and driving necessary containment actions.

Supplier Quality Tools:

Expertise in core supplier quality disciplines, including

PPAP/APQP , FAI, and Process Control Plans.

Problem Solving:

Proven ability to lead complex root cause analysis (RCA) and implement robust corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) using methodologies like

8D .

Auditing:

Experience performing effective quality system and process audits against international standards (e.g., ISO 9001) and specific customer requirements.

Statistical Analysis:

Proficiency in statistical methods, including Statistical Process Control (SPC) and measurement system analysis (MSA).

Technical Proficiency:

Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).

Communication & Negotiation:

Strong presentation, negotiation, and cross-cultural communication skills required to manage global supplier relationships.

Typical Experience

4 to 6 years of relevant experience as a Supplier Quality Engineer, Quality Engineer, or NPI Quality role, with direct responsibility for supplier engagement.

Experience in a complex manufacturing environment, preferably with electronic components, mechanical assemblies, or high-level system integration (EMS industry experience is a strong plus).

Typical Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing) or a related technical field, or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications such as ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Six Sigma Green Belt are highly desirable.

Educational requirements may vary by geography.

Physical Demands

Duties are performed in both a normal office environment and a dynamic manufacturing environment.

The role requires frequent domestic and/or international travel (up to 25%) to conduct supplier visits, audits, and problem-solving sessions.

Duties may require periodic exposure to elements such as noise, heat, and dust, and to operating machinery during site visits, carried out in accordance with local safety guidelines.

Occasional sustained visual concentration on detailed specifications or small components is required.
